Malfunctions smoke detectors

Malfunctions smoke detectors

Smoke detectors are an important part of fire safety in a building and warn you and fellow residents in a timely manner if smoke is detected.

It may happen that the detector goes off without there being a fire. In addition to smoke, smoke detectors are also sensitive to dust, steam or aerosols. No fire, but the smoke detectors still going off? Then follow the step-by-step plan below:

What is the situation?

  1. Make sure that all smoke can escape from the room in which the smoke detector is located (open windows and doors).
  2. When all the smoke is gone, press the 'Test&Hush' button on the smoke detector, the smoke detector will reset itself.
  1. Find the smoke detector that caused the alarm. You can recognize this by the red LED that flashes quickly.
  2. Make sure that all smoke can escape from the room in which the smoke detector is located (open windows and doors).
  3. When all the smoke is gone, press the 'Test&Hush' button on the smoke detector, the smoke detector will reset itself.

Does the smoke detector emit a short beep every 40 seconds and does the red LED on the detector light up at the same time? The battery in the smoke detector is almost empty and needs to be replaced. See also 'replacing the smoke detector battery'.

Does the smoke detector beep and the red LED on the detector flashes but not at the same time?

Then the vents of the detector are contaminated. Clean the smoke detector thoroughly (remove the dust with a cloth or vacuum cleaner). If the detector continues to beep, please contact us.

Does the smoke detector beep every 40 seconds and the green LED on the detector does not light up?

If the green LED on the detector does not light up, the detector is running on the battery and not on the power supply. The battery is an extra backup that ensures that the detector continues to detect smoke and/or heat even in the event of a power failure. In this case, please contact us.
