Local Engagement
Stakeholder Municipality of Maastricht and Province of Limburg:
As the largest manager of private real estate in Maastricht, we also play a significant societal role. Over the past years, Huizen Beheer Maastricht has actively engaged as a stakeholder with the Municipality of Maastricht and the Province of Limburg in initiatives such as the Structural Vision for Housing in South Limburg, Housing Splitting and Conversion Policies, Evaluation of Maastricht’s Housing Agenda, Safe Rooms Project, and the recent Student & Livability pilot program.
VVWM:
On May 6, 2015, Huib van Gastel and Tom Kissels, along with Bill Vandenbergh, founded the Association of Landlords of Residential Properties Maastricht (VVWM), aiming to promote, coordinate, and advocate common interests in spatial planning and housing. The association now boasts over 500 members, ranging from small-scale property owners to major investors. Members receive a comprehensive quarterly newsletter detailing local and national changes, and an extensive Annual General Meeting (ALV) featuring notable guest speakers is held annually.
Prettig Wonen Certification:
Emerging from a collaboration among private landlords united in the VVWM, educational institutions (Maastricht University, Zuyd University of Applied Sciences, JvE Academy), the Municipality of Maastricht, South Limburg Fire Department, housing associations, Student Council, and neighbourhood committees. Why a certification? Maastricht is a growing international city. All these new residents need housing, but how can they determine if it’s safe and reliable? The Pleasant Living Certification provides tenants with an immediate assurance that the property meets standards for fire and burglary safety and that the landlord is trustworthy and easily reachable.
