Defects and malfunctions

In many cases, you as a tenant can resolve power outages yourself. First of all, it is important to know which type of fuse box you have. There are 2 types of fuse boxes : breakers/levers and fuses.

What cause a fuse to trip?

  • Due to a short-circuit in an electrical appliance or power line.
  • Due to overload, when too many devices are connected to the same group.

Power has gone out in the entire building.

  1. If the earth leakage circuit breaker is set to OFF or 0, set it to ON or 1.
  2. If the earth leakage circuit breaker keeps dropping back to OFF or 0, switch off all groups, set the earth leakage circuit breaker to ON or 1 and switch the groups on again one by one.
  3. The earth leakage circuit breaker will return to the group where the fault is located. An electrical appliance may be defective here. Disconnect all appliances by unplugging them from the socket. Then set the switch of the group to the top and plug in all devices one by one. This way you can find out which device is causing the malfunction.
  1. When replacing blown fuses, you must first switch off the group. You can then loosen the relevant plug and replace the fuse. You can tell if a fuse has blown because the metal 'spring' has blown out of the fuse.
  2. If the fuse blows again, an electrical appliance may be defective. Disconnect all appliances by unplugging them from the socket. Replace the fuse and then reconnect all devices one by one. This way you discover which device is causing the malfunction.
  1. If one of the switches of the groups is down, activate this group again by pushing the switch to the upright position.
  2. If the switch then drops again, an electrical appliance may be defective. Disconnect all appliances by unplugging them from the socket. Then set the switch of the group to the top and plug in all devices one by one. This way you can find out which device is causing the malfunction.
